Malayagam Canada members attended the 2024 UN Women Annual Session in New York. Our representatives met with diplomats and international NGO delegates to discuss the status of Malaiyaha women in Sri Lanka’s tea estate sector.
Among the events attended were:
• UN General Assembly Plenary Session; Commission on the Status of Women.
• Side event: Angel of Hope Foundation, hosted by First Lady of Zimbabwe.
• Side event: Women in TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training): Unlocking Digital Empowerment, hosted by Government of the Philippines and Coca Cola Philippines.
• Special Gender-Based Violence Session: hosted by Justice, Law and Order Services, Government of Kenya; and United Nations Population Fund.
• Two open sessions of the UN Security Council, discussing proposals for greater representation of Global South on the Security Council.
